Trust Leader for Community Engagement

BA (Hons.) Economics, Manchester Metropolitan University / Postgraduate Certificate in Education, Business, Hull University

“I'm glad that my school is part of The de Ferrers Trust.  It is good to be able to have more teachers in the same subject area in one team.  We can learn from each other and share ideas”.

Born and bred in West Yorkshire, I knew from an early age I wanted to be a teacher.  In 1993, I started at Pingle as a newly qualified teacher and all these years later, I am still in Swadlincote.  Gaining promotion throughout that time, I think I am lucky to have found my best-fit school, so I stayed.  It has been a privilege to be part of the Swadlincote community for so long and I have loved teaching so many young people in the town.

My job as Trust Leader with responsibility for community engagement means that I can still have contact with many of the students I taught.  They seem happy to help Miss!  Swadlincote has changed over the years and so has teaching but being a teacher of business means you have to move with the times.
