Safeguarding

At The de Ferrers Trust the safeguarding of the children in our care is of paramount importance. Safeguarding children is every member of staff’s responsibility. Specifically, this means that all staff are fully trained in line with 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' (2022) and that the Trust operates safer recruitment practices in all cases.

The Trust has a safeguarding policy to which all of our academies adhere. This can be found below. In addition, each academy has its own safeguarding annex which contains information unique to the individual setting.

Within our Multi Academy Trust we recognise the importance of keeping children safe from harm, not just our statutory responsibility but our moral one. We work closely with both Staffordshire and Derbyshire Local Authorities to support families whose concerns or actions may have led to a referral being made either by school staff or those external to the trust.

We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment within all our academies where all children and adults are respected and valued. We will make sure that all children and young people have the same protection regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children and adults receive effective support and protection. We recognise the additional needs of vulnerable and disabled children and young people and the barriers they may face, especially around communication.

‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ Statutory guidance for Schools and Colleges (DfE September 2022) contains information on what schools, including academies, should do and sets out the legal duties with which they must comply.

Part of the above requirement states that all staff should read at least part one of this guidance and this is provided to all staff in the form of a safeguarding booklet alongside other important safeguarding information, and time is given within training sessions for staff to read this.

The de Ferrers Trust has a strategic responsibility towards all the academies within it to ensure that safeguarding practises across the Trust are robust and effective in safeguarding and protecting the welfare of all children and young people in its care.
