“The support I have received working for the Trust has been invaluable. I have been supported in every initiative I have implemented to support vulnerable and disadvantaged students, both by the Trust itself and the individual academies within it”.

As a student I attended what is now The de Ferrers Academy in the late 80s/early 90s, staying on into the Sixth Form to study Music, English and Biology. At this time, Music was really high profile within the school and the brass and wind bands won many national competitions and even played at the Royal Albert Hall and on Blue Peter (not sure where my badge is now…).

Brass banding was also an important feature of Burton back then and playing in the Ind Coope Brewery Brass Band helped fuel my desire to study Music at university. After completing my university education, I moved back into the area, working in Walsall and Wolverhampton and returning to de Ferrers in 2003 where I’ve held a number of roles from Head of Music to Lead Teacher for Vulnerable Students for both the Academy and the Trust.

The de Ferrers Academy has been an integral part of my life. I’ve spent over 25 years within its walls during my lifetime. It set me up for life after school and continues to do so for my own children.
