We are looking to appoint a Teacher of Design and Technology with specialist knowledge in all materials and Product Design.

The Faculty has a strong tradition of excellence and innovation within all areas of Design & Technology. The compulsory programme of study that is offered to Key Stage 3 students is innovative and dynamic. Students at Key Stage 4 are offered a wide range of GCSE subjects to choose from and at Key Stage 5 we offer Design and Technology: Product Design and Design and Technology: Fashion and Textiles. There are eight members of staff teaching Design and Technology and two full time and two part time Technicians for the faculty.
The Academy has a range of specialist rooms within Design and Technology to accommodate curriculum requirements. Facilities within the area allow for a wide range of courses to suit student’s needs enabling us to implement new developments to the curriculum.
All specialist rooms in Design and Technology have computer access along with CAD/ CAM facilities in all areas. At Year 9, Key Stage 4 and 5, the Faculty embraces the use of iPads as an integral tool for learning.
Students at Key Stage 3 are introduced to Design and Technology at The Academy through foundation courses in all material areas in which they develop a range of new and exciting skills and knowledge. Year 9 students have the opportunity to specialise in material areas further in preparation for Key Stage 4. The modules that students undertake at Key Stage 3 enable them to embark on ‘real life’ design situations and prepare students for the new Pathways at GCSE.
At Key Stage 4 we currently offer the following GCSE courses; AQA Food Preparation and Nutrition and AQA Design and Technology.
At Key Stage 5 we currently deliver AQA Design and Technology: Product Design and Design and Technology: Fashion and Textiles.
The Academy prides itself on the Primary Partnership links that we have throughout the year and the Design and Technology Faculty has become a key part of this over the past few years with staff delivering workshops to year 5 and 6 students. The Faculty has also worked on national initiatives with the Department for Education. The Academy has an excellent reputation for Design and Technology and prides itself on being the first Secondary School in the country to achieve the Design Mark. The Faculty endeavours to be at the forefront of initiatives within the subject area and enjoys competing in numerous external activities and competitions including Faraday and First Tech Challenge events.
The Design and Technology Faculty is extremely forward thinking and will provide many opportunities for the appointed candidate to be part of a successful team. It will provide the opportunity to grow as an individual and be part of a dynamic team that inspires the next generation of designers.
The successful candidates will be highly qualified and be able to support in the promotion of excellent standards of student learning, achievement, progress, attainment and behaviour through working effectively and collaboratively. They will be passionate about their specialist subject and seek to positively impact their field and Academy.
